descriPTION
Handcrafted sculpture on Lecce stone, designed and created by artist Andrea Serra. The sculpture “Freedom” unfolds in soft, flowing forms, like a swan opening its wings. From the central core a movement of expansion arises: matter becomes an organic and light gesture, evoking a silent act of liberation in space.
The work is entirely done by hand on this stone which is found only in a very few areas of southern Italy, namely in lower Salento in the province of Lecce. This particular stone of marine origin, rich in plant and animal fossils dating back approximately twenty million years (such as shells, marine plants and shark teeth), makes it suitable for working details. The fossils present are visible on the surfaces of the work and make it even more unique and fascinating.
The sculpture Libertà, like every work by Andrea Serra, being hand-carved, is unique and signed in engraving by the artist.
